More information

Background information:
In addition to outdoor benches, there are also waiting areas in which benches are set up. Certainly the larger train stations had various waiting areas in the past, often divided into the usually 3 classes. In Haarlem, the first-class waiting area is still in use, with benches that may have been originally built for the second-class waiting area. In any case, it is these benches that serve as the basis for the Markenburg models. Around 1900 there were no national standards for train station furniture, which makes these benches suitable for covered waiting areas in various station buildings. The two-sided benches are ideally placed in the center of a room.
