More information

Background information:
The level crossing gates with the text “pay attention to train” are used at the unguarded railway crossings. These are railway crossings without light or sound signals. With a few exceptions, which have a white and red flashing light from around 2018. We know the railway fences with the original gray concrete posts, but from the early 2000s, also with the black plastic posts. The blue signage with white text is in fact an addition from the mid-1990s. Before that they only did it with the red and white striped signage. The unguarded railway crossings come in many forms. However, the traffic intensity of road traffic is always low. Some crossings are only intended for pedestrians, but others can also serve regular road traffic and/or agricultural vehicles. The paving forms also differ. Some transitions are no more than a sand or gravel path, others have clinker or concrete paving stones. And there are even transitions with concrete slabs or asphalt pavement. Where in the 20th century the level crossing fences were the only warning for the intersecting track, sometimes single track, but also regularly double track, in the 21st century the level crossing fences are increasingly flanked by fencing, such as those in the Markenburg theme "around the platform". can be found.
