Background information:
A platform is a wonderful invention, but railway and maintenance personnel still regularly find themselves in the situation where they have to walk further along the track than the platform is long. Especially with the introduction of the current high platforms, a stepladder is very useful for railway employees to get from the platform to the track level and perhaps even more important the other way around. A special stepladder has therefore been developed for the head of the platform. A model that is not too steep so that even with a bag or toolbox, strictly by authorized persons such as train and maintenance personnel, it can be used to bridge the height difference. The fact that this type of platform stepladder can be made relatively lazily is because trains never get very close to the head of the platform. However, this type of stepladder has no railings. Although it remains a guess why not, it may also have to do with the fact that they should not be too conspicuous in order to prevent unauthorized persons, such as travelers, from using them.
Construction details:
We actually only see this type of platform stairs in (galvanized) steel variant around the Dutch platforms.
